Monsoon weakens over Mumbai

At the start of September third week,monsoon current weakened over the state and is expected to wane in Mumbai,IMD officials said Saturday. While maximum temperatures remained moderate in the city – 30.8°C and 30.7°C in Santacruz and Colaba resepectively – the humidity soared to 92 per cent and 89 per cent at the two spots respectively.

“Till Saturday morning,there was clouding and rains in Mumbai. However,the systems have cleared and the rainfall activity in Mumbai has decreased. There will be dry weather and rising temperatures in the coming week,” said a weather official. In Mumbai,the rainy season draws to an end on September 30. “Across India,monsoon has not yet started withdrawing. However,the systems will start weakening over the next week and rain will occur only intermittently,” said V Rajeev,director of IMD,Mumbai.

The IMD reported around 2 cm rainfall in Vaitarna and Vihar lakes,and 1 cm in Tulsi Saturday. Santacruz received 5 cm rainfall in the morning. The monsoon was active over Konkan-Goa coast and rainfall is said to have occurred in the interiors of Maharashtra and isolated parts of Gujarat .
