MNS worker shot,3 detained

Navi Mumbai police have detained three people for questioning after MNS party worker Tryambak Khairnar alias Chhota Mali was shot dead by unknown assailants late Saturday night at Airoli.

Navi Mumbai police have detained three people for questioning after MNS party worker Tryambak Khairnar alias Chhota Mali was shot dead by unknown assailants late Saturday night at Airoli.

Khairnar,a history sheeter,had recently been released from jail on bail in a murder case.

According to Airoli police,the murder took place near Airoli railway station.

“The most obvious suspects are Pramod Deshmukh and his associate Manoj Haldankar from Shiv Sena. However,we have not arrested anybody yet,” said an officer.

Police said that Deshmukh was arrested after he fired a round at Khairnar in 2009. Khairnar was injured in the abdomen and rushed to Mahajan hospital in Rabale.

Khairnar used to work as a private contractor at Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) at the time an Deshmukh worked closely with him.

On Saturday at 9:30 pm Khairnar was shot by two unidentified assailants in a Mahindra Scorpio when he stepped out of a bar in sector 29 of Airoli. They fired three rounds and then fled from the spot.

“We are questioning witnesses to draw sketches of the assailants,” said the officer.
