Millwal FC edged out St Josephs from Juhu 4-3 via the sudden-death in a Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Division II semi-final match at the St Xaviers ground,Parel on Wednesday.
After both teams failed to produce a goal during regulation period the match was extended to the penalty kicks duel. The lads from Millwal showed better nerves and proved successful converting three of their five attempts in the tie-breaker and one in the sudden death to clinch the match in their favour. The Juhu outfit managed to score three in the tie-breaker,but failed to convert in the crucial sudden death.
Azim Khan,Zeeshan Shaikh,Bradley Tellis and Jehan Irani were on target for Millwal,while St Josephs scored through Erwin Anthony,Tyson Gonsalves and Dexter Gonsalves.
Later in the second semi-final contested between Falcon FC from Mulund and Falcon Brothers from Mazgaon,the former prevailed by an identical 4-3 margin also via the penalty shootout. Tushar Karmalkar,Siddharth Dhamle,Abidan Joshua and Mihir Wazarkar were successful for the Mulund side,while only Rohan Thomas,Llyod Vaz and Connan Barboza could convert for the Mazgaon side.
