Fine spin bowling from Shivam Mehrotra (5/50) of Tendulkar XI and Sharif Hussain (5/40) of Rajastahan CA put their teams in commanding position in the last league match of the Varroc Cup U/14 selection cricket tournament organized by Dilip Vengsarkar Foundiation in Mumbai.
At Sachivalaya Gymkhana,Cadence Academy (Pune) who chose to bat first after winning the toss against Tendulkar XI were bundled out for 121 runs due to fine legspin bowling from Shivam Mehrotra who sent half of their side back to the tent in just 50 runs. After that Bhupen Lalwani (66) and Aman Sharma (20) gave them a solid start of 92 runs and they ended the Day One on 142/3. Tendulkar XI who have taken the vital first innings lead are in commanding position and are sure of making it to the finals. At the end of the day,Jay Dave (batting 37) and Om Jadhav (batting 11) were at the crese. Off spinner Siddhesh Varghante took 2/31 for Cadence.
In another match at Vengsarkar Academy ground,visitors Rajasthan C.A. won the toss and put Shastri XI into bat and bowled them to 170 runs. At one stage Riddhesh Sawant (60 with 12 fours) and Mehtab Ansari (61 with 10 fours) put together 106 runs for the second wicket; but off spinner Sharif Hussain gave them the breakthrough when he bowled out Mehtab Ansari. From thereon they never looked back and rest eight batsman of the Shastri XI were out in just 45 runs. Sharif Ansari performed this miracle taking 5/40 and was well supported by left arm spinner Baljit Singh (2/31). At the end of the days play,Rajasthan were sitting pretty with 58/0 in 24 overs. Rajasthan is sure to make it to the finals as they have an outright victory in the previous match getting 4 points.
