MBA graduate convicted for drunk driving,killing 2

Court sentenced Lalit Sharma to seven years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

A sessions court has convicted a 25-year-old MBA graduate for drunk driving and killing two persons in July last year. The court sentenced Lalit Sharma to seven years rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000.

Sharma,who was returning from his friend’s birthday party,had run over two pedestrians — Meenbahadur Chatri and Hiralal Khanal — on Vijay Nagar bridge at Marol. According to the prosecution,Sharma rammed his white Swift into the railing of the bridge,hitting the victims.

“One victim fell off the bridge while the other was crushed by the impact,” said public prosecutor S M Pandit. The prosecution relied on seven witnesses to prove the case.

Sharma was held guilty under section 304 (II) and 279 for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and rash driving along with section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence of alcohol.
