Congress MLA Zeeshan Siddique, who was removed from the post of president of Mumbai Youth Congress, hit back at the party stating there was massive communalism in it and was putting up an act of standing behind Muslims.
“The Congress says it stands behind Muslims, but has any Muslim leader ever become a Pradesh Congress Committee president in Mumbai. There is massive communalism in the Congress,” Zeeshan, Congress MLA from Bandra East, said in Mumbai.
Zeeshan’s father, three time MLA Baba Siddique had recently quit the Congress and joined the Ajit Pawar led NCP. On Wednesday, the Congress issued a statement stating it was removing Zeeshan as Mumbai Youth Congress President.
Zeeshan said the Congress has been unfair with Muslim leaders and said in spite of being elected president of the Youth Congress, he had personally received no communication from the party about his removal.
Attacking the party for how it handled Muslim leaders, Zeeshan said that party leaders had upon his appointment as Mumbai Youth Congress president told him not to appoint Muslim office bearers. “In spite of having won the elections for youth president, my election was not ratified by the party for over eight months. There was one more Muslim youth leader from Karnataka whose election was not ratified,” Zeeshan said alleging the party was biased against Muslim leaders.
While Zeeshan did not announce his breaking away from the party, he said he was being forced to look out for options. “Until last week I was with the Congress. However the way things are progressing in the party and the way its leaders are behaving, the writing on the wall is clear that they do not need minorities. I will now have to check my options,” Siddique said.
