The accused, who managed to get into her house, allegedly molested her while she was asleep. (Representational/File) A 35-year-old externed criminal was arrested by Pydhonie police for allegedly sneaking into the house of a woman and sexually assaulting her. The police said the complainant is a widow and she stays with her mentally unstable brother. The accused, who managed to get into her house, allegedly molested her while she was asleep.
According to police officials, the incident took place in the wee hours on November 10.
The police said the 30-year-old complainant works throughout the day and returns home only at around 10 pm.
“Likewise on November 9, she went home and slept late at night. And while she was asleep at around 3 am, she sensed that somebody was touching her inappropriately,” said a police officer.
When she opened her eyes, she noticed that the accused, identified as Ganesh Reddy, was sitting next to her, said an officer.
“The woman then raised an alarm for help after which one of her neighbours went to her doorstep and Reddy escaped from the spot. The neighbour too saw Reddy running from there,” an investigator added.
The woman reported the matter at Pydhonie police station where a case under relevant sections of house trespass and outraging the modesty of a woman was registered.
During the course of investigation, the police started scrutinising the CCTV footage when they were informed about his arrival at Surat Street in Mumbai.
Accordingly, a team laid a trap around the street on November 11 and arrested him as soon as he landed.
The police said Reddy has several other cases registered against him due to which he was externed recently.
“As per the externment rules, he is not supposed to come inside the city limits for at least two years and as he has flouted those norms, we have added sections of MCOCA against him,” an officer said.
The officials further added the accused is not cooperating in the investigation, and he has not revealed on how he managed to get inside the house of the woman.
Reddy was produced before court on Monday and remanded in police custody.
