The police said that at around 2.30 pm Saturday, Rana and his wife fought after he asked her to give him money as he wanted to visit Odisha. They got into a heated argument, and in a fit of rage, Rana assaulted Himandri, and later strangled her with a bedsheet, said a police officer.

The couple’s son was inside the home and witnessed the incident. Hearing the commotion, other workers knocked at Rana’s door several times. When he opened the door, they found Himadri unconscious.

The police officer said the contractor was informed about the incident, and they rushed her to a hospital, where she was declared dead by the doctors.

The Charkop police questioned Rana, who initially denied his involvement, but his son told them that his father had assaulted his mother. The police then registered a case of murder against Rana, and arrested him, said a police officer.
