Man, son arrested for ‘sexually exploiting’ tenant’s minor daughter in Bhandup

The police arrested both the accused from their residence on Friday morning and are now interrogating them.

The Bhandup police on Friday arrested a father and son duo for allegedly sexually exploiting their tenant’s 10-year-old daughter repeatedly for the past one year. The police said the victim stayed near the residence of the accused, and on Thursday, she confided in her mother.

“According to the complaint filed by the victim’s mother, the accused have repeatedly exploited the victim in their residence, which is in the same locality where the victim stays. The victim has told her mother that it had been going on for a year,” said an officer with the Bhandup police.

After the victim’s mother approached the police, her statement was recorded and a complaint was registered against the father and son for rape under the Indian Penal Code and for sexual exploitation under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

“The victim and her family have been staying in a room owned by the accused on rent for the past six years. The father works as an autorickshaw driver, while the son works with a private firm,” the officer added.

The police arrested both the accused from their residence on Friday morning and are now interrogating them. The victim has been subjected to medical tests. A detailed statement of the victim would be recorded by women police officers and child care experts, the police said.
