Man sentenced for murder convicted of robbery

Rajesh Chowdhary,convicted and sentenced to ten years in a murder case,conspired with five others to burgle Gurukul Online Solutions at Ville Parle to steal diamonds after he was let out on parole on August 9 last year.

However,the prosecution said,the gang,also comprising Ahmed Ali Shah,Arputraj Nadar,Aslam Shaikh,Akhtar Hussain and Akbar Shaikh,could not find diamonds in the shop and ended up stealing mobile phones.

All six were arrested for dacoity. While Shah,Nadar and Aslam Shaikh were tried with Chowdhary,Hussain and Akbar Shaikh are absconding.

But defence lawyer Jayesh Vithlani managed to convince the court that no one was harmed in the incident. He also claimed wrong people were rounded up by police.

“Only Chowdhary was subjected to an identification parade,” Vithlani said and secured acquittal of all other accused.
