(File Photo)A 22-year-old man allegedly killed his colleague on Monday by hitting the latter on his head with a wooden stool and fire extinguisher in Girgaon area of South Mumbai. Both the accused and the victim were working in the same office for the last three months and they resided together. The accused, Suraj Sanjay Mandal, who hails from Bihar. The police formed several teams and are trying to trace the culprit, who fled after the incident.
According to police, the deceased, Ramesh Hajaji Chaudhary (39), was a native of Dhanora Taluka in Banaskantha district in Gujarat. He had been working in a steel shop in Khetwadi area at Girgaon for several years and the shop owner recently started a business in trading and had an office for the same on the first floor of the building where his shop was located.
Mandal joined the work three months ago and the two began to stay on the same first floor, said the officer.
The incident occurred between 1:30am to 2am when they had a heated argument over some issue and during the scuffle, Mandal hit Chaudhary on the head with a wooden stool and fire extinguisher. Chaudhary suffered severe injuries, lost alot of blood and died. Mandal then fled the crime scene, said Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohit Garg, zone 2. The incident came to light at 11am when the shopkeeper came and found the shop was closed. He opened the shop and found Chaudhary lying in a pool of blood on the first floor, the officer added.
The police were informed about the incident, and a team from Girgaon police station conducted a panchnama of the spot and rushed the body to the hospital for post mortem. Chaudhary’s family lives in his native place and were informed about the incident. The exact motive will be clear once the accused is nabbed, the officer added.
