Acting on a tip-off, the police Friday arrested a 23-year-old man in Ghatkopar with a cache of firearms.
The suspect, Ravindra Bhaur alias Ravi alias Bachha, allegedly worked with a former member of the Chhota Rajan gang who was planning a crime in Thane city.
Bhaur was caught eight days after his senior partner Raju Mahadik (37) was arrested by the crime branch. Mahadik once worked with Rajan before the latter fled India.
Mahadik was last arrested in 2011 and met Bhaur in prison. “Mahadik wanted to start his own gang. After both men were released from jail, Mahadik used Bhaur to scout for youngsters for him,” said a crime branch officer.
While Mahadik is wanted in cases of murder and attempted murder in Mumbai and Thane, Bhaur is wanted is six cases of murder and attempted murder.
On Friday, the crime recovered a factory-made pistol, a country-made pistol and four live rounds from Bhaur after trapping him at Ruchira Hotel near Ghatkopar Bus Depot.
