Days after the Delhi Police arrested a 39-year-old man from Delhi for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a 12-year-old boy in Wadala, Mumbai, the accused revealed to the Mumbai police that he killed two more persons, including a minor boy, during his time in the city. The accused, Bipul Shikari, who escaped from Mumbai after killing a 12-year-old boy in January, claims to have killed the other two individuals, including a friend and another minor boy, in December and January. Police are still verifying Shikari’s confession.

According to police, Shikari allegedly kidnapped a 12-year-old boy from his in Wadala around 7.30 pm on January 28. They were neighbours and the accused was known to the boy. Shikari allegedly took him under the pretext of showing him something, then sexually assaulted and killed him.

“As the boy did not return home, the mother informed her husband and others who started searching for him,” said the boy’s uncle.

Early on January 29, local residents caught the suspect, with whom the boy was last seen. “He was beaten up and was bleeding from his forehead. Then he was taken to the police station where the station house officer asked him to go and wash his face when he escaped,” said the uncle.

The headless body of the boy was found on March 4, prompting the Mumbai police to intensify their search. During investigation, police learned that Shikari was earlier arrested for killing his wife in West Bengal and had been released on parole. However, he did not return and escaped.

“The accused then contacted his friend Raju Mandal in Kolkata, who found work for him in Mumbai and sent him here. A couple of days later, Mandal also came to Mumbai, and the two stayed together in Wadala,” said an officer.

According to police, Shikari and Mandal worked for a contractor. Shikari told police that in the last week of December, 2023, they were consuming alcohol on a bridge near Bhakti Park when Mandal allegedly threatened to inform police about Shikari jumping the parole. In a fit of rage, Shikari allegedly pushed him off the bridge and stabbed him to death before dumping the body in a drain.

Subsequently, Shikari started stealing iron and steel from an ongoing project in Wadala to earn a living. A group of minor boys, who were also involved in the same, later allegedly started stealing from Shikari, police said.

“Shikari claims that he had asked the minors to go and steal from the site, but the minors did not listen to him and continued stealing from him. The victim boy even charged at Shikari once. When he stole from him again, Shikari allegedly drowned him in a marshy land and dumped his body there,” an officer said.

Police said the boy was killed in January. As he was missing, his family reported the matter to police and registered a case of kidnapping.

Shikari also confessed to have worked for a gang in Kolkata where he committed other crimes as well, according to police.
