Man held for raping daughter over 9 yrs

Police said the victim became pregnant at the age of 13,after which the accused forced her to have an abortion.

Nirmal Nagar police have arrested a 59-year-old man for allegedly raping his 19-year-old daughter on several occasions over the past nine years. Police said the victim became pregnant at the age of 13,after which the accused forced her to have an abortion.

Police said the matter came to light on Sunday after the victim confided in a friend,who urged her to lodge a police complaint.

The victim said her father,a widower who works as a lift operator at a Bandra building,had gagged and raped her for the first time when she was ten years old. The accused continued the sexual assault frequently, said senior inspector R S Khakale.

The accused has been booked under IPC section 376 (punishment for rape) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt). He was produced before a court on Monday and remanded in police custody till Friday.
