Man held for molesting 5-year-old

According to police, the suspect, 24-year-old Rajesh Pandey, lived in a rented shanty with four to five other men in the slum colony.

The Amboli police have arrested an unemployed youth for allegedly molesting a five-year-old girl from his neighbourhood in a slum at Jogeshwari (West).

According to police, the suspect, 24-year-old Rajesh Pandey, lived in a rented shanty with four to five other men in the slum colony.

The minor girl lived next door with her parents. Her father owns a pan stall in the vicinity. The police said that the girl would frequent the suspect’s home. On one such occasion Thursday evening, Pandey allegedly asked her to remove her clothes and touched her private parts. “Upon returning home, the girl told her mother about the incident after which her parents approached us. A case was registered against the suspect under IPC section 354 apart from relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” said Prabhakar Medhe, senior inspector, Amboli police. Pandey was subsequently arrested from his residence and was remanded to police custody on Friday.
