Two persons were carrying swords, the officer addedThe Malegaon police on Saturday arrested a 45-year-old man who allegedly fired two bullets at his neighbour from a country-made pistol over an altercation between children, police said. The neighbour dodged the bullet but associates of the accused allegedly beat him up.
According to police, the accused, Mehtab Ali Shaukat Ali, came with 10-12 associates to the residence of the complainant, Laeek Ahmed Mohammed Kameel, 42, near Sufia Masjid in Naya Islampura area, Malegaon, around 10.30 pm, Saturday. Ali, holding two pistols, started abusing Kameel and later fired two bullets on him.
Kameel dodged the bullets but Ali’s associates allegedly beat up Ahmed and also damaged some vehicles parked in the vicinity, a police officer said.
The accused and his associates also barged into the victim’s house and damaged property and his motorcycle. Two persons were carrying swords, the officer added.
Ali was arrested later and a case was filed for attempt to murder. He was produced in the court and remanded in custody till November 6.
According to police, the duo had an argument earlier after the accused allegedly verbally abused the complainant’s daughter in-law. Their children also had an argument recently.
“A case of attempt to murder has been registered against the accused and his associates in the Ayesha Nagar police station in Malegaon. The main accused Ali was arrested at night and police are searching for others,” said police inspector Gautam Taide.
Kameel and Ali have had fights previously as well, though the latest incident was caused due to an altercation between their children, said Taide.
