Man assaults doctors at Mumbai’s Cooper hospital after his mother passes away

According to the police, the attacker's mother was not well and was having difficulty in breathing. Shaikh was threatening the doctors that if anything happened to his mother, they would face the consequences.

A 35-year-old man allegedly misbehaved and assaulted three doctors at Cooper hospital in the wee hours of Saturday after his mother died during treatment. The Juhu police have booked the person under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.

The accused is identified as Sameer Abdul Jabbar Shaikh, 35, who lives in SRA building at Sagar City area, Andheri (West).

According to the police, Shaikh’s mother, Saida, 57, was not well and was having difficulty in breathing. He brought her to the hospital around 12.10 am on Saturday and she was taken into casualty department.

Doctor Gaurav Anandgaonkar, 25, was on duty at Cooper hospital as a medical officer. He informed doctor Prashant Bhadke, and both started examining the patient and found that her BP was nonrecordable and carotid pulse was weak. Anandgaonkar then alerted the medicine department and explained her health condition to the doctor, Karan Desai. She was given CPR, and her ECG was checked. The ECG reports showed the flat line, and she was declared dead during the treatment, said a police officer.

Shaikh was threatening the doctors that if anything happened to his mother, they would face the consequences. Despite continuous efforts, the patient did not respond. The doctors then informed the patient’s son that his mother had passed away, said officer.

Shaikh allegedly started abusing and physically assaulting the doctors. The security guards and police present in the hospital intervened and restrained Shaikh. The doctors then approached the Juhu police, and an FIR was registered against the patient’s son Shaikh under the relevant sections of BNS.
