A SPECIAL court on Friday cancelled a bailable warrant issued against BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, in the Malegaon 2008 blast case. The warrant was cancelled after Thakur appeared before the court upon being discharged from the private hospital she was admitted to on March 20, after she landed in Mumbai.
Thakur’s lawyers submitted the medical certificate which stated that she was unwell, and the doctor had advised her to take rest. “The documents on record also show that she is on medication. The advocate said she is not in a position to sit, to walk and even to sign. I found substance in it as she appeared in court with the help of supporting aid,” said special judge AK Lahoti, while allowing her adjournment for the day.
The court had issued a bailable warrant on March 11 against Thakur when she did not appear before it on the date fixed to record her statement. Her lawyer, on March 20, had told the court that while she was on her way to the city, she fell unconscious on the flight and was admitted to a hospital upon landing. The court, on March 20, had stayed the warrant till her discharge from the hospital.
The court is currently recording statements of the accused.
