The Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday slammed the state government for not allowing the peace march of veteran freedom fighter and Gandhian, GG Parikh by serving him a notice.

“We condemn the action taken against GG Parikh for serving him notice and stopping the peace march. Police detained Mahatma Gandhi’s great-grandson Tushar Gandhi which must be condemned in the strongest of words. Those who insult the Indian flag and the Independence Day are roaming free and have no fear of law. But freedom fighters are facing police action,” said Mumbai Congress chief Varsha Gaikwad.

“Before independence, the Indians were fighting against the British. Today, we are fighting against our own countrymen who are making a mockery of democracy,” said Patil, condemning action taken against Parikh and Gandhi. He was speaking at the August Kranti Maidan while paying tributes to the freedom fighters.

Patil said that the present state and central governments are working like the British and it is important that people of this state should come together against this government.
