As per the revised schedules, candidates allotted seats in the All-India round have until November 1 to confirm their admissions.Following recent changes to the third All-India round of medical admissions, the Maharashtra CET Cell has released a revised schedule for state-level MBBS and BDS admissions. However, overlapping timelines between the two rounds have sparked concern among candidates, who fear that the clash may cause deserving, high-scoring students to miss out on better seat opportunities.
As per the revised schedules, candidates allotted seats in the All-India round have until November 1 to confirm their admissions. Meanwhile, the Maharashtra CET Cell is set to release the state-level Round 3 allotment list on October 30, allowing candidates to register and compare options from both rounds before confirming their seats.
This overlap, according to candidates, is different from the traditionally established process of starting state-level round after all-India rounds, exactly to avoid such a scenario so that everybody gets a chance to vie for good seats. Sudha Shenoy, a parent activist, said, “Traditionally, the state-level choice-filling process begins only after the All-India round’s third allotment list is released. This sequencing ensures that students already allotted seats through the national quota are excluded from the state admission pool, maintaining fairness and preventing unnecessary seat lapses.”
Candidates are now demanding that the state-level Round 3 should begin only after All India round admissions are completed. They also highlight that the deadline to complete state-level Round 3 is November 8, allowing enough time for the state CET Cell to conduct the third round after the national round is over.
As per the revised schedule for Maharashtra, candidates willing to apply for admissions here have two more days (October 27 and 28) to fill college choices.
“This allows those candidates who have applied for the national round to also fill college options for the state round. Since there is no way of knowing that some of them have already secured a seat in the All India rouund, high-scoring ones will get seat allotment in the state-round. Furthermore, since they have until November 1 to confirm admission on national-quota seats, and the state-level allotment list is expected to be out on October 30, there are enough days for candidates having options to make a favourable choice, leaving another seat vacant for Round 4,” said Shenoy.
