The Maharashtra government will urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to build a national monument of Chhatrapati Shivaji in New Delhi, deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis said on Friday.
The state government on Friday held a grand ceremony to commemorate the 350th coronation of Shivaji Maharaj at Raigad Fort in Maharashtra.
Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Fadnavis, and several prominent leaders and elected members attended the ceremony.
“Maharashtra government will request PM to have a national monument of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Delhi,” Fadnavis said. The monument of world-class stature to depict the life and works of Shivaji would help generations to come to draw inspiration from Shivaji Maharaj’s life and works, he added.
Fadnavis during his address at Raigad Fort said, “We are extremely fortunate to be witnessing the 350th coronation of Shivaji Maharaj ceremony at Raigad Fort. It was exactly this place where Shivaji Maharaj established Hindvi Swarajya 350 years ago.”
Apart from being a great warrior king, Fadnavis said, “Shivaji showed the world how good an administrator he was keeping the welfare of his people.”
Whether it was forts strategically built for security and defense, Shivaji conceptualized the water conservation projects with agriculture in mind, which are still relevant to mitigate drought, he said.
Security of women was integral part of his good governance, he added.
