On those whose names have been rejected, Fadnavis said there were doubts on their credentials and some of them were facing corruption charges or “had the image of a fixer.”

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Monday said that he will not allow persons facing corruption charges to be appointed as personal assistants (PA) and officers on special duty (OSD) to cabinet ministers, while adding that he has cleared names of 109 candidates for the post from a list of 125.

On those whose names have been rejected, Fadnavis said there were doubts on their credentials and some of them were facing corruption charges or “had the image of a fixer.”

“ I will not allow fixers as the PA/OSD of cabinet ministers,” Fadnavis told the mediapersons in Nagpur, adding that strict norms for the appointment of PAs and OSDs will be enforced in letter and spirit.

“Appointments of PAs or OSDs of ministers are cleared by the CM. It is a general practice which has been in existence… I have received a list of 125 candidates… I have cleared the names of 109. All the names which were withheld were objectionable, as there were doubts on candidates’ credentials, there were charges of corruption or they had the image of a fixer,” the CM said.

Earlier, ministers from BJP’s Mahayuti allies Shiv Sena and NCP had complained about not getting a free hand in appointment of PAs and OSDs.
More than two months after the Maharashtra Cabinet was formed in December, 2024, appointments of PAs and OSDs to many ministers are still pending.

The chief minister said, “I told the ministers to provide the list of candidates. Those whose credentials are clear have been given the nod. But candidates who face certain charges or have a bad image, have been turned down.”

Meanwhile, Fadnavis also stated the Prime Minister Kisan Sanmman Yojna installment released on Monday has benefitted 90 lakh farmers in Maharashtra.
Under the scheme, farmers get an annual stipend of Rs 6,000 each from the central and state governments in three installments.
