Ambiguity in BMS, BBA, BCA admissions concern for Mumbai students
Maharashtra CET Cell has announced another CET for these courses because many complained they had missed the first one.

Students seeking admission to BMS, BBA, BCA courses in Mumbai are a troubled lot. Finally, after close to a month’s wait, their Common Entrance Test (CET) result is out but admissions cannot start because the Maharashtra CET Cell has announced another CET for the same courses because many complained they had missed the first one.
Meanwhile, some colleges in the city have already started admissions to these courses. Colleges affiliated to HSNC University and Somaiya Vidyavihar University have already started admissions to these courses. According to the websites of the two universities, HSNC University started admissions for BMS, BCA, and BBA on June 25, whereas Somaiya Vidyavihar University started BCA, BBA, and BBM admissions on June 21. Both universities have their own entrance tests.
Vice Chancellor of HSNC University, Dr Hemlata Bagla, said, “Students are under tremendous stress due to ambiguity. Students have cleared H-CET, which is our own entrance test, and MH-CET, which is conducted by Maharashtra CET Cell. All these are meritorious students who are determined to pursue BMS. But with no clarity on admission, they approached us, which led to the decision to start admissions.”
Students seeking admission to these courses in Mumbai University-affiliated colleges are still waiting for the Maharashtra CET Cell to hold the Common Admission Process (CAP). However, there is no clarity on the same in the absence of guidelines for the process. Amid all the ambiguity, these admissions are stalled, causing stress among students as all other undergraduate degree admissions are already halfway through.
One of the students who appeared for the first test in May said, “The result is out, but it is of no use until admissions start. The CET Cell has announced an additional CET for the same courses, and there is no declaration of its date yet. I have already waited for a month for my result. They won’t start admission until the second test’s result is out. This uncertainty is stressful.”
While students await admissions, a CET Cell official said, “While a second test is underway, we are in the process of finalising details related to CAP, including the merit and eligibility criteria for admissions among all.”
From this academic year, admission to popular undergraduate (UG) courses—Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS), Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA), and Bachelor of Business Management (BBM)—is based on CET, unlike the conventional practice of considering Class 12 marks.
