Ahead of the budget session, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday dismissed speculation of discord within the Mahayuti alliance—comprising the BJP, NCP, and Shiv Sena—asserting that all partners remain united. Addressing concerns, Fadnavis stated, “There is no war. Those who know both of us (him and Shinde) will remember what we do when we are together.” His remarks alluded to their past meetings before Shinde’s rebellion, which led to the split of the undivided Shiv Sena and the fall of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government in 2022.

After extreme heat amid a heatwave alert, temperatures in Mumbai decreased slightly over the weekend, with the Santacruz station recording 35.1 degrees Celsius Sunday. However, this relief is expected to be temporary, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted another temperature increase, potentially reaching 37 to 38 degrees Celsius over the coming weekend.
The Colaba coastal observatory noted a temperature of 32.8 degrees Celsius Sunday. Although the temperatures remained above normal, it represented a significant drop from the previous week, when maximum temperatures reached an eight-year high of 38.7 degrees Celsius on February 26. For at least three consecutive days during that week, temperatures in the city exceeded 38 degrees Celsius, prompting the IMD to issue a heatwave alert for the coastal region.
Experts attributed this spell of hot weather in February to a rainfall deficit during the winter season.
Currently, a yellow warning has been issued for hot and humid weather conditions in the neighbouring districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. Meanwhile, in Mumbai, the IMD has stated that the maximum temperatures will hover in the 34-35 degrees Celsius range until Friday, following which a significant spike is imminent. Read

Maharashtra Governor C. P. Radhakrishnan addressed the joint session of the Maharashtra State Legislature at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai, on Monday. This marks the first budget of the Mahayuti government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, after securing a decisive victory in the November Assembly elections.
The Maharashtra budget session beginning on March 3 will be a litmus test for the ruling Mahayuti government led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as it will have to put on a united front amid rumblings within the coalition, even as it faces the heat from the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA).
With 232 MLAs, the Mahayuti coalition, comprising the BJP, the Shiv Sena, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has the numbers on its side as compared to the MVA, comprising the Congress, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (SP), which has been relegated to 47 MLAs after a drubbing in the Assembly elections last year.
However, though the Opposition has weakened, the differences that have cropped up between Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, coupled with controversies involving NCP ministers Dhananjay Munde and Manikrao Kokate, have set the stage for a noisy session. Read
