Maharashtra: Automobile body to host women’s national car rally on April 12

While nearly 113 vehicles participated in the previous edition of the WIAA women's rally, this year, the association is expecting turnout of over 100 cars with each ferrying two - three women participants

To convey the message of road safety and women empowerment, Western India Automobile Association (WIAA) is set to host a women’s national car rally on April 12.

Over 300 women are expected to participate in the one-day rally, which will take the participants from Mumbai to the valley in Nashik.

The event is slated to be flagged off from National Sports Club of India (NSCI) in Mumbai, following which the rally will traverse through Nashik, wherein the event will culminate in a prize distribution ceremony.

The rally will be conducted in the popular Time-Speed-Distance (TSD) format. Presented by J K tyres and supported by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC), the event is aimed at advocating women’s safety and empowerment while celebrating the spirit of women in motorsports.

Speaking during the unveiling ceremony on Tuesday, Nitin Dossa, the executive chairman of WIAA, said that the key objective of the annual women’s rally is to advocate legislation and policies veered towards women’s working rights and their empowerment.

“These rallies have gained tremendous popularity and are now a matter of pride and keen interest for all automobile owners,” said Dossa, during the event.
