Left out of Loop, city cops scout for a cellular service provider

In March this year, Loop informed the Department of Telecommunications that it would not be able to renew its licence.

With Loop Mobile set to shut down by November this year, the Mumbai police have initiated talks with other cellular service providers to transfer the 55,000-odd Loop Mobile connections purchased by policemen so that they may continue to have cellular service with the same benefits.

Loop Mobile had offered a special plan for the Mumbai police, with concessional rates for making calls and sending text messages to other Loop Mobile customers. Consequently, many in the police force bought anything between two to four SIM cards each, one for themselves and the rest for their family members so that they could avail of the concessions offered by the plan.

In March this year, Loop informed the Department of Telecommunications that it would not be able to renew its licence. Soon thereafter, Loop Mobile told its customers to port out their numbers.

Mumbai police Spokesperson DCP Dhananjay Kulkarni said there were around 55,000 Loop Mobile connections which needed to be ported out.
