Law will take its course, says CM Fadnavis after MNS call to slap people who do not speak Marathi
On Tuesday, three MNS workers were booked for allegedly slapping a watchman in Powai for not speaking in Marathi.

Three days after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray said that his party will not back down on “slapping” people residing in the state if they refuse to speak Marathi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday said that the law will take its course.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai, Fadnavis said, “I tell you clearly it is not wrong to demand Marathi in Maharashtra, the government also wants use of Marathi as much as possible, but if someone takes law in his hand, then the law will take its course.”
Addressing the party’s annual Gudhi Padwa rally at Shivaji Park in Central Mumbai on Sunday, Thackeray said, “In our Mumbai, they tell us that they cannot speak Marathi… they will get a slap on the face. Don’t tell me about the country and all. Every state has its language and it must be respected. In Mumbai, Marathi should be respected.”
On Tuesday, three MNS workers were booked for allegedly slapping a watchman in Powai for not speaking in Marathi. Similar incident happened at a bank in Mumbai, where an official was threatened for not speaking in Marathi.
Terming it a political stunt eyeing elections, Congress leader Naseem Khan said, “We have seen in 2009 that similar tactics were used by the MNS ahead of Assembly elections. Now the BMC polls are coming and similar rhetoric is repeated.” Khan said that such violence over use of language must be condemned.
