CISF personnel handed over the seized gold and the two suspects to Mumbai customs officers for further investigation.

During interrogation, the two suspects claimed that they were involved in the gold smuggling but merely in the capacity of carriers and were promised a hefty commission. They also claimed that the smuggled gold did not belong to them.

Customs officials have arrested the two under relevant sections of the Customs Act, as smuggling gold is a punishable and non-bailable offence.
