Maharashtra minister Kokate sends defamation notice Rohit Pawar for posting video of him playing rummy in House
The notice has sought unconditional written apology within eight days and warned that failure to do so will lead to civil and criminal proceedings.

Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Manikrao Kokate has issued a defamation notice to NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar for posting a video on social media of him playing rummy on his mobile phone in the Legislative Council. Terming the notice “funny”, Pawar said Kokate shouldn’t have played cards in the House if he was so worried about farmers.
“I have received a defamation notice for making the video of the former agriculture minister playing cards in the council public. Kokate, your time had come but you survived such a big scandal. If you were so worried about defamation, why did you play cards,” Pawar said in a post on X.
“The notice you sent is funny, I couldn’t help but laugh after reading the notice. But remember, I don’t speak without proof. I had proven with evidence that you are playing cards and I can prove it even tomorrow,” he added.
In the notice, Kokate alleged Pawar made defamatory statements while posting the video of him. The notice stated that the statements were made knowingly, maliciously and without any supporting evidence, “despite your awareness of our client’s stature and contribution to public service”.
The notice has sought unconditional written apology within eight days and warned that failure to do so will lead to civil and criminal proceedings.
After the video surfaced, Kokate was stripped of his agriculture portfolio and was given charge of sports and youth affairs. NCP minister Dattatraya Bharne was given charge of agriculture.
