A DAY after a 65-year-old share trader was found murdered at his residence in Kandivali West, the police are still to make any arrest in the case. The victim, Devendra Jayantilal Doshi, lived alone in his 2-BHK flat on the fourth floor of Pratik Apartment in Kandivali West and was found on Sunday evening with his throat slit.
“We received a call from the victim’s neighbours around 8.30 pm on Sunday. We found his body lying on the floor in his bedroom. His throat was slit and he also had injuries on his head,” said police sub-inspector Bhushan Janardan Thoke.
According to the police, the victim had separated from his wife and had been living alone. His children had been calling him and had asked the neighbours to check on him when their calls went unanswered. The victim’s family lives in Mira Road. Police suspect the incident to have occurred Saturday and are waiting for the postmortem report for confirmation of the time of death.
Police have questioned the victim’s family and neighbours.

“We have formed four teams and are investigating all angles,” the officer said. Police are also investigating the possibility of a family dispute and have recorded statements of the victim’s two sons.
Police have collected CCTV footage from the area. The apartment has a single private CCTV camera belonging to a resident on the third floor. The camera, near the staircase, would have captured anyone going up to the fourth floor to the victim’s house. Police have obtained the footage and are combing through it.
“We came to know about the incident on Sunday night around 9 pm. Police came to take the CCTV footage from our neighbours. I have been living here for three years, so I didn’t know the victim well. He was living alone and used to work from home,” said Shilpa Modi, a neighbour.
The victim had been living at his residence for 20 years. He also had his office at his residence and used to conduct his business from home.
“Only 5-6 families live in the building. People keep to themselves here. But he seemed like a nice man,” said another neighbour who did not wish to named.
Kandivali police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 452 (house trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) of the Indian Penal Code.
