IT students cry result goof-up

Final year Information Technology (IT) students of Datta Meghe college of Engineering (DMCE) at Airoli,Navi Mumbai, are threatening to go to the student grievance cell

Final year Information Technology (IT) students of Datta Meghe college of Engineering (DMCE) at Airoli,Navi Mumbai, are threatening to go to the student grievance cell of Mumbai University over the alleged discrepancy in the assessment of their internal exam.

The results were declared on July 17,and put up on the college notice board on July 19. As soon as they saw the results, students and parents raised this issue with the college administration.

According to students, the college awarded them marks for their internal tests, attendance and class performance out of 25 marks, instead of 50.

Students claim this has led to most scoring less than 20 marks in the internal exam.

“The internal exam is for 50 marks and the external exam (projects) for 50 marks. We were shocked to see we were given marks only out of 25. Our head of the department admitted there was an error,” said a student.

Another student said,“I hope they rectify this at the earliest as many of us are planning to apply for further studies abroad.”

Vaibhav Narawade, former senate member and IT teacher said,“I agree the college erred, but am shocked at how Mumbai University can overlook such a big issue. The results are released by the university,so they are as responsible as the college.”
