Evoking history, Fadnavis said, “If we look at our Indian culture, thousands of years ago we had established a republic as well as democracy which is in the blood of the people of India. It is in the value system of Indians. We can all come together and overcome our small differences to take the country forward.” (Express Photo by Pradip Das) At the National Legislators Conference in Mumbai Friday, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said India’s strength lies in its democracy.
Fadnavis was speaking after inaugurating the three-day National Legislators’ Conference Bharat at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Speaker of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Rahul Narwekar, former speakers of Lok Sabha Shivraj Patil-Chakurkar, Meira Kumari and Sumitra Mahajan, Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Speaker Neelam Gorhe, conference organiser Rahul Karad and MIT founder Vishwanath Karad.
“Our ideologies may be different, our paths may also be different but our tool is one and that tool is democracy. Our destination is also the same — that is to take India to the highest peak of success. When the tool is one and the final destination is also one, all of us together with our thoughts, using that tool, can definitely move towards that final destination,” Fadnavis explained.
He added, “Through such conclaves, there will be discussions and exchange of ideas. We can come up with bright concepts through brainstorming sessions.”
“Indian democracy is the largest and the strongest democracy in the world. We have to brainstorm on how to make this democracy more prosperous. We have such a massive democracy of 140 crore people and we can still have a fair election in India and the government is elected in India in a democratic way. This is the victory and the strength of India’s democracy,” he further said.
Evoking history, Fadnavis said, “If we look at our Indian culture, thousands of years ago we had established a republic as well as democracy which is in the blood of the people of India. It is in the value system of Indians. We can all come together and overcome our small differences to take the country forward.”
“Our democracy is also the best because our Constitution is the best in the world. It is so unique that whatever you want for the welfare of an individual, this Constitution paves the way to achieve the goal. It also provides checks and balances. There is a clear distinction between roles and responsibilities. We are answerable to the people,” the Deputy CM said.
“I am sure good ideas and results will come out of this one-of-a-kind conference, which will give rise to good insight and inputs to collectively move towards India’s goal,” he said.
