At the Cannes Film Festival this year,a film based on a week in the life of a young singer-songwriter as he steers through New York’s folk music scenes in the ’60s,won the Grand Prix prize (the grand jury award). Directed by the Coen brothers,Inside Llewyn Davis,is scheduled to release in India on December 20 — a day before its scheduled release in the US. The film has Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan in key roles.

It’s quite a coup on part of PVR Director’s Rare to manage a release of an acclaimed film around the same time as its international release. However,Inside Llewyn Davis isn’t their only big release planned over the next few months. They are reportedly also bringing to India a few other films by other international directors. Among them are Jeremy Saulnier’s Blue Ruin,Susanne Bier’s Love Is All You Need and Asghar Farhadi’s The Past.

Farhadi’s film won the leading lady Berenice Bejo the Best Actress award at the Cannes festival earlier this year. The film, about the strained relationship between a daughter and a mother, was screened at the recent edition of the Mumbai Film Festival alongside Inside Llewyn Davis.

The release dates for these films will be announced next week.
