A computer expert who developed the applications that successfully stopped the viruses ‘ILOVEYOU’,‘Melissa’ and ‘Sasser’,which had corrupted thousands of workstations in the last decade, was part of the faculty at an anti-hacking course attended by Mansoor Peerbhoy, the alleged Indian Mujhaideen member arrested for hacking into computers and sending terror emails.

Eyal Dotan was among the four faculty members at a workshop at Hotel Fortune Katriya in Hyderabad between May 14 and 19,2007,the training catalogue shows. The Crime Branch, which recently filed an additional chargesheet in the special MCOCA court, has attached the catalogue and a registration form to prove that Peerbhoy had attended the course. He paid Rs 75,000,an officer said.

Dotan, who is the author of the ViGuard host intrusion prevention software,or a HIPS application,is the first to have ever stopped the ‘ILOVEYOU’,Melissa and Sasser viruses. Dotan holds a number of patents in the field of computer security.

The workshop was hosted by E2 Labs and dealt with three major topics: hands-on anti-hacking unlimited,hands-on web applications security and hands-on anti-wireless hacking.

Peerbhoy, who is alleged to be the media wing head of the Indian Mujahideen, had allegedly hacked into unsecured WiFi networks at three locations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai,to send emails to media houses before the Ahmedabad,Surat and Delhi serial blasts. According to the police, between 2005 and 2008,the group had conspired for and executed several blasts across the country.

A statement to the police by an official of E2 Labs describes Peerbhoy: “He was a good student, smarter then others in his batch.” In 2007,Peerbhoy was employed with Zimbra,Asia-Pacific,owned by Yahoo India.

The Mumbai Police have said Peerbhoy,an extraordinarily talented software developer and a resident of Pune, belonging to a “highly educated family”,travelled several times to the United States. They allege that on the orders of wanted accused Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal,he bought routers and other peripherals to hack into unsecured WiFi accounts and send the terror emails.
