IIT-B chemical engg students get an ‘honour code’ to go by

“Students will be not be allowed to take up any administrative posts (if the honour code is breached) such as class representative general secretary across the institute. If the student is found guilty while holding an administrative position,the student will step down. No objection certificate for any further assignment or internship will be denied. For individual activities,in case of first proved instance of breach,fail grade will be awarded in the respective course. For a second proved instance of breach,a student will be referred to the disciplinary action committee with a suitable recommendation such as rustication for a certain period or even expulsion from the institute,” reads the code.

The code says that while considering cases that involve copying from other students,whether between individuals or between groups,the information giver and receiver will not be distinguished from each other in terms of punishment awarded.

“The honour code was drawn up after discussion. Amendments will be made as and when required,” said a student from the chemical engineering department.
