Inspector General of Registration (IGR) and Controller of Stamps, under the Government of Maharashtra, has collected Rs 38,647.12 crore as revenue till February 6 which is 85.88 per cent of its targeted revenue of Rs 45,000 cr for 2023-24. It has registered over 22.98 lakh documents in this period.
An official highlighted that stamp duty and registration fees constitute the state’s third-largest tax revenue source.
In the fiscal year 2022-23, the targeted revenue was set at Rs 32,000 crore, and the department exceeded expectations earning Rs 44,602.79 crore, which is 139.38% of the revenue target by registering 25.76 lakh documents. In 2021-22, with an annual target of Rs 29,000 crore, the department collected Rs 35,171.25 crore, amounting to 121.28% of the revenue target, with 23.83 lakh documents being registered.
