Idea of toilets on foot overbridge wins top prize at IIT

The competition was part of the Techfest at the IIT, inspired by Modi's 100 smart city vision.

The idea of building public toilets with a special concrete on foot overbridges which will not let out odour bagged the top prize of Rs 5 lakh in a competition organised by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay seeking “smart ideas” for “smart cities”.

The prize was won by Ganesh Bhosale and his partner Kailash Bhosale.

The competition was part of the Techfest at the IIT and was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building 100 new smart cities in India. The event attracted over 1,000 participants from across the country who pitched their ideas of smart cities on various parameters like infrastructure, healthcare and hygiene, trade and commerce, law and policy-making and urban aesthetics.

The winning team of Bhosales, who hail from Kothrud, also suggested road censors to indicate the presence of other vehicles on a blind turn to avoid accidents.
