Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar on Wednesday said that the Maharashtra government will take over the iconic ‘India House’ in London, which was once the home of Hindu ideologue Vinayak Damodar Savarkar and preserve it as a memorial. Accordingly, the state government has initiated the process with help from the centre.

During his London visit recently, Shelar got the historic sword of Nagpur’s Raghoji Raje Bhosale. He had visited India House during this trip. At that time, members of the Indian community in London brought the matter to his attention. MLA Devyani Pharande from Nashik had also made this demand earlier.

A joint review meeting regarding the matter was held at Mantralaya on Wednesday in the presence of MLA Devyani Pharande and officials from the General Administration Department, Cultural Affairs Department, and Archaeology Department, among others.

A committee chaired by Mitra, comprising representatives from the General Administration, Cultural Affairs, Archaeology and Finance Departments, will be constituted to prepare a comprehensive report on the takeover of ‘India House’. The report will be submitted to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for further action.
