(File) Paper-evaluation for Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination has again been put on hold after the junior college teachers’ associations declared their participation in the state-wide indefinite strike of government employees demanding the old pension scheme.
According to information provided by the association, teachers will work to conduct the HSC exam but will not evaluate papers.
Convener of the Maharashtra State Federation of Junior College Teachers Organisation, Mukund Aandhalkar, said, “Taking into consideration students who have spent an entire year preparing for HSC, we will continue participating in work related to conduct the HSC exam. But teachers will not evaluate papers.” He continued, “Apart from HSC exam, teachers will not do any other work, and won’t take lectures of Class XI students.”
The assessment process for this year’s HSC examination is marred with troubles.
Initially the teachers associations had declared a boycott on assessment over a different set of demands. Even after several days into the exam, the assessment process was not started. It was after a meeting with the school education minister that teachers associations called off the boycott on March 2. but the the process has been suspended again due to strike.
The HSC exam began on February 21, and a total of 14,57,293 candidates have registered for it.
The Bombay University and College Teachers Union (BUCTU) has also shown support for the state-wide strike due to which lectures have been affected in many colleges.
