The Mumbai Board of Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) has announced an extension of the participation period for the affordable housing lottery draw. The deadline, originally set for June 26, has been pushed back to July 10. The application submission process for the lottery draw began on May 22, but the board has not yet disclosed the specific date of the draw. How to apply: For the first time, MHADA has adopted a complete hundred percent online procedure for the lottery application, eliminating human interference in the system. Previously, only a few procedures were online, and the draw used to be held via a computerized system. Now, the entire system has been digitalized by adopting new upgraded technology. Interested homebuyers can apply for MHADA lottery houses via the official websites housing.mhada.gov.in and mhada.gov.in. As the lottery system has been made digital, the entire process, including registration, document submission, payment of the minimum deposit, and the lottery draw, eliminating human intervention, will be held online only. How many applications received so far: As of 6 PM on June 27, the Mumbai Board had received a total of 90,435 applications, with 64,899 applicants having made the earnest money deposit (EMD). The payment of the EMD confirms the participation of applicants in the lottery draw. Increased EMD amounts for different categories: MHADA has increased the EMD amount for all categories of houses. The lottery houses have been divided into four categories: Economically Weaker Section (EWS), Lower Income Group (LIG), Middle Income Group (MIG), and Higher Income Group (HIG). The EMD is fixed at Rs 25,590 for EWS and Rs 10,590 for EWS (PMAY) houses each, Rs 50,590 for LIG, Rs. 100,590 for MIG, Rs. 1,00,590 and Rs. 1,50,590 for HIG, respectively. Previous response to lottery draw: In the previous lottery draw held by the Mumbai Board in 2018, which included over one thousand houses, it had received over a lakh applications from interested homebuyers. In 2019, the board called for a lottery for 200 houses and received over 50,000 applications. However, this year, after a gap of four years, MHADA, although offering over 4,000 houses in prime areas of Mumbai, has received fewer participants so far. Consequently, the authority has extended the time for participation in the lottery. According to officials, the reason for the lower participation is that MHADA has adopted a complete online procedure for the lottery application for the first time, eliminating human interference in the system. This approach helps prevent duplicate applications and identify previous lottery winners, if any, from participating again. Where these 4072 houses are available : The cost of the homes varies from Rs 34 lakh for a small apartment in Vikhroli to Rs 4 crore for large flats in Juhu and Rs 7 crore in Tardeo, the costliest house offered by MHADA under the HIG category.
