‘Housewife commits suicide by consuming poisoned seeds’

The victim has been identified as Suvarna Patil.

A housewife staying at D N Nagar allegedly committed suicide after consuming poisonous seeds of a tree near her house on Saturday night.

According to the D N Nagar police, the victim, identified as Suvarna Patil, was rushed to the Cooper Hospital late on Saturday night and was declared dead before admission.

“Inquiries so far have revealed that Patil consumed seeds of a tree close to her residence in D N Nagar. Further inquiries are underway. We have registered an Accidental Death Report in the matter,” said Senior Police Inspector Rajendra Chavan, D N Nagar police station.

Police officers said that the variety of the seed cannot be ascertained until tested forensically. Hence, they said they would not comment on the variety of the seed allegedly consumed by Patil.

An officer with the D N Nagar police said that Patil had an argument with her husband over a trivial matter on Saturday night in her residence in Building No 14, D N Nagar. After the argument, she walked out of her house and consumed the seeds of a fruit from a tree near her building and henceforth, collapsed.

“We are verifying the sequence of events prior to her taking the extreme step and will take action accordingly,” Chavan said.
