(Representational/ File) A major traffic congestion led to a jam on Mumbai Pune Expressway between Khalapur toll plaza and Khandala exit on Saturday and Sunday. Officials said the sudden spike in vehicular movement due to the long weekend caused the traffic jam.
According to highway police officials, the traffic snarls were reported between 8am and 5pm on Saturday and Sunday. A senior police officer said, “There is some large construction project underway on the Mumbai-Nashik and Mumbai-Gujarat highway. Due to this, heavy vehicles are only allowed to ply these roads after 7pm. These heavy vehicles start from Nashik or Gujarat at 7 pm in the evening and reach Khadala Ghat next morning at around 9am.”
