Additional Commissioner of Income Tax Sumitra Banerjee,her husband Subratho and Assistant Commissioner,I-T,Anjali Bambole,who had been arrested in a graft case were on Tuesday remanded to judicial custody till May 11.
The CBI had arrested the trio for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 1.5 crore from a builder to reduce his tax liability. All the three have sought bail on the ground that their custody was not further required. The court has directed the CBI to file their reply on the bail application by Thursday.
According to CBI,Sumitra and Anjali had on March 24,examined the documents of the complainant and conducted a survey of his sites.
The accused had allegedly sought the bribe to reduce the builders tax liability from Rs 25 crore to Rs 2 crore. The builder lodged a complaint with the CBI,leading to the arrest of the two I-T officials and Anjalis husband for alleged involvement.
