Demanding that the state government should immediately declare drought in Maharashtra, the Opposition Thursday claimed that 194 out of 358 tehsils in the state are facing drought and 16 districts have received less than 75 per cent rainfall.

“The state is staring at drought. Marathwada, western Vidarbha, north Maharashtra and parts of western Maharashtra are witnessing loss of crop due to monsoon shortfall. Many places will witness double sowing. Why is it that the state government is turning blind eye to this reality? Why is it that the triple engine government fearing to announce drought in the state?” asked Leader of Opposition in legislative Assembly Vijay Wadettiwar.

He also pointed out that the chief Minister and two deputy chief ministers are busy in other issues instead of providing relief to farmers and agri sector.

“The chief minister is inactive. While one deputy CM is busy in political campaign in Rajasthan, the other one is busy holding meetings of departments which he has no authority over,” he said, referring to Devendra Fadnavis’ Rajasthan tour and Ajit Pawar’s series of meetings with departments related to health and infrastructure.
