Elderly woman staying alone at home found murdered in Ghatkopar

Based on the post-mortem report which indicated that Shehnaz had been hit on the head, the local Ghatkopar police have registered a murder case in the matter.

The Mumbai police is investigating the murder of a 65-year-old woman who was staying alone at her residence in Ghatkopar. The woman, identified as Shehnaz Kazi, was found dead on Tuesday by one of the neighbours who had been called by her sister to check on Shehnaz as she had not been answering her phone. So far, no arrests have been made in the case but some suspects have been detained for questioning.

As per the FIR, on Tuesday evening, Saika Ansari, who resides on the third floor of Mukund society in Ghatkopar (west) received a call from Shehnaz’s sister. Shehnaz stayed a floor above Saika.

Her sister told Saika that Shehnaz had not been answering her calls and asked her to check if she was doing fine. Her sister was concerned as Shehnaz was residing alone as her husband had passed away in 2018 and they had no children.

Saika took the keys from a neighbour and entered the flat where she found Shehnaz lying on the ground floor with blood coming off her head. Shehnaz was rushed to a local hospital where she was declared dead.

Based on the post-mortem report which indicated that Shehnaz had been hit on the head, the local Ghatkopar police have registered a murder case in the matter.

An officer said that Shehnaz’s husband Anees had married twice and had three children from his second wife. There was a property dispute between Shehnaz and the children. The officer said that they are currently questioning some suspects and should be able to make arrests soon.
