CBI officials laid a trap and caught Amol Jagtap red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 1,20,000.An assistant director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) was among four persons arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1.20 lakh in lieu of clearance of pending bills of a private company.
According to the CBI officials, a case was registered after a demand was made from a private company.
“A complaint was filed that FSSAI assistant director Amol Jagtap, in connivance with a number of intermediaries, is involved in illegal and corrupt practices of demanding and accepting bribes from food business operators and other interested parties for dishonest discharge of public duty in his capacity as public servant,” officials said.
“It was also alleged that accused assistant director agreed to accept a bribe from the accused senior manager of the private company, who would deliver bribe on behalf of director of the (complainant) company, in lieu of clearance of their pending bills,” the CBI said in its statement.
Accordingly, CBI officials laid a trap and caught Jagtap red-handed while accepting the bribe of Rs 1,20,000.
Three other accused arrested in the case have been identified as Dr Vikas Bhardwaj, Harshal Chougule and Gurunath Dubule. Bhardwaj works as a director and Chougule is a senior manager of Reliable Analytical Laboratories Pvt Ltd.
