Four Government Railway Police personnel have been suspended for interdisciplinary conduct, including making videos in uniform during duty hours and uploading them on social media, while two others were suspended for running a coaching centre.
GRP Mumbai commissioner Dr Ravindra Shisve ordered the suspension of the personnel, including one woman constable.
According to GRP sources, one constable posted at a GRP police station in Central Railway and a woman constable at a station in Western Railway were found making reels in uniform and posting the same on Instagram and other social media platforms. When the GRP commissioner learned about it, he asked the deputy commissioners concerned to look into the matter, initiate an inquiry and suspend them from service. After an internal departmental inquiry, their quantum of punishment would be decided.
“Police constabulary is part of a disciplined police force. They are the face of the force. As police, we have the responsibility of maintaining the dignity of the uniform. If they wish to still do it, but for a good cause like creating awareness, participating in department’s public welfare initiatives or helping the department bridge the gap between police and the public, they can continue it after securing due permission,” Dr Shisve said.
A few weeks ago, a police couple posted at Vasai GRP was suspended for running a coaching centre in violation of the service rule.
“When we wear uniform, we are bound by rules of code of conduct. Everyone should respect that. We don’t allow the acts in contravention of rules. It was important to take stern action against them on right time.” Dr Shisve added.
