Four girls die, 55 hurt as container hits state bus near Malkapur

Four young girls were killed and 56 others, including 46 school and college students, were injured in a collision between a state transport bus and a container truck near Malkapur on National Highway 6 Friday morning.

The Kati-Malkapur bus (MH-12 EF 6929) full of schoolchildren from many villages was hit by the container (HR-46 CC 689) coming from opposite direction, killing Komal Chopde (18) of Dhanora, Shital Hiwale (18) and Puja Junare (19), both residents of Kati, on the spot. Another girl, Seema Nayak, succumbed to injuries later.

School and college students from Kati and other villages take the morning bus to Malkapur where they study in different schools and colleges.

The injured were shifted to Malkapur, Jalgaon and Buldana hospitals. The death tally may go up since many of the injured were stated to be in critical condition.

Police as well as local social and political workers managed to provide timely help to the injured, sources said.
