The Bombay High Court on Saturday granted bail to four convicts sentenced to life for kidnapping and murdering a 14-year-old boy. A division bench of Justice J N Patel and Justice Amjad Sayed granted them bail on a surety of Rs 25,000 each.

Of the seven convicts who were sentenced to life, four — Shinde Sayed Aslam Sayed Jafar,Sayed Akhtar Sayed Jafar,Sunil alias Karan Mahipal Valmiki and Govind Shinde— had moved the court for bail.

Seven youths had kidnapped and murdered Raj,a standard IX student,on November 18,2009,while he was on his way to DPYA High School in Matunga.

According to police, the youths had demanded Rs 5 crore in ransom to release the boy. In March 2004,the police had recovered a boy’s body from Daund and claimed that it was Raj’s body. But Raj’s father,Kunjbihari Agarwal, had refused to accept that it was his son’s body. A DNA test ordered by the Bombay High Court was inconclusive.

Advocate appeared for the convicts,Khan Abdul Wahab, contented that his clients had been convicted for the murder of a boy whose body had not been claimed by the parents so far.
