A 62-year-old woman has moved the Bombay High Court seeking action against an officer of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) for his alleged role in forcing her to sell her flat in Malad a couple of years ago.
The flat was allegedly sold on the insistence of a woman who had rented the flat in 2006 and won the faith of petitioner Usha Mishra,a Jogeshwari resident. The petitioner said she neither got any money from the sale nor was she given a copy of the sale deed.
ATS sub-inspector Sunil Mane, according to her petition, had put pressure on her to sell the flat to his brother.
In 2006,she rented the flat to Paromeeta Chakravarty (24) and over a period of time, got close to her. In mid-2009,Chakravarty called her to the flat saying the Income Tax (IT) Department had raided it and seized Rs 23 crore,Mishras petition filed through lawyers Shyam Marwadi and Diwakar Singh stated. Mishras family was allegedly told that Chakravarty had a bank balance of crores and political clout as well. In fact, when Chakravarty had moved into the flat, she had allegedly told Mishra she was relative of a former CM of West Bengal.
Charkravarty,Mishra said, asked her family to help her till her money was released by the IT department and initially said she would require around Rs 55 lakh. Shortly after that,in 2010,Chakravarty asked her to sell the flat through her personal financier Satish Shetty. It was after that the ATS officer put pressure on the family to sell the flat, according to Mishra. She alleged that Mane, attached to the Chandan Chowki unit of the ATS in Juhu, threatened them with dire consequences if she does not oblige.
She also alleged that the Rs 43 lakh obtained from the sale of the flat was taken by Chakravarty, who was arrested along with two accomplices after Mishra lodged an FIR at Amboli police station in February 2011. Mishra is now seeking action against Mane.
Mishras petition stated that the ATS officer is well-connected and has political clout. She also alleged that local goons and anti-social elements work on the instructions of Mane brothers.
We have made investigations against Mane, said investigating officer Rajendra Kane, adding that his arrest was not necessary in the case. Mane could not be reached for his comment. Mishras petition is likely to come up for hearing in the High Court next week.
